I like Wikipedia’s breakdown of mythic humanoids into four categories: human skinned(pass unnoticed in human society), monster skinned(scales/claws/fangs/etc), monstrous(clearly inhuman), and temporary form humans(can assume human shape).

You’re no less a teratophile for preferring more human-shaped monsters, and anyone telling you otherwise can miss me with that gatekeeping bullshit.
