The only acceptable icing is buttercream. Whipped icing is a cowards choice and fondant people are demons and gotta meet me in the street for their poor life choices that led them to accept Play-Doh as acceptable cake decoration
turn on ya location and we can talk
Hope you understand sign language then cause all you’re gonna be seeing is hands
Cream cheese, meringue, ganache, and glazes are all valid. (ง •̀_•́)ง me.
How the Hell have I scrolled through all the notes and you are the only person who even mentions ganache?!
Ganache is the only proper filling and icing for chocolate cake and I will take you all on.
Do you people even actually eat cake or are you all just Food Channel/GBBO hipsters with broken taste buds? 🤬
You gotta have different frostings and icings for different cakes.
If you try to come at me with anything other than glaze on a poundcake, I will slap that plate to the ground and fight you like a blonde soccer mom with an a-line bob at a bake sale.
Whipped cream on anything heavier than angel food or trifle? That’s a paddlin’.
Anything other than cream cheese frosting on red velvet or carrot cake? Square up.
PS: OP is absolutely correct on fondant. Fondant is fucking garbage. Sure, it’s a way to make your baking work look nice, but cakes are food. They shouldn’t taste like they’ve been shrink-wrapped in vaguely semi-edible plastic. I peel that shit off and it goes in the trash can. Fondant. Fuck off! Go make marzipan and shill that shit to bad candy enthusiasts.
I totally agree with Z on the different toppings for different cakes but nobody has mentioned penuche. It doesn’t work for everything but frosting that is also perfectly delicious candy on it’s own? That is a real winner! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Penuche is acceptable.
Someone upthread was saying that people don’t/can’t eat cake decorations made out of harder crystalline sugar, and I got keyed up again. I eat those! Then I remembered I’m one of those Pokémon shiny level rare folks who purchases Jordan almonds and eats them independent of weddings. Those are basically what they taste like to me, except softer and with less almond flavor.
I also eat those horrifying corners of sheet cakes with decorative piped flowers. Unless it’s a grocery store cake/cupcake with a dye in the red family (red, orange, pink, especially vivid or neon variants). That dye has a really unpleasant flavor.
I think we need to talk about sprinkles and what kinds of cake topping they can be combined with, or whether they should be banned from cakes and restricted to ice cream and cookies. I can go either way!
I wonder if I could find someone who decorated a wedding cake with those tart sugared fruit slices. Gummy candy on a cake sounds like an hilarious disaster. But it would be aesthetic!
I’m gonna send this post to T and preempt her: strong cake opinions are probably a large factor in my pre-diabetes. 😅
